Founded in 1918
just after World War One, Mido soon became famous for its innovative
watches. In the late 1920s Mido produced watches in the shape of
car coolers for different car brands. The Mido Bugatti watches from
that time are rare and very expensive collector's pieces today.
In 1934 Mido launched the Mido Multifort, the first shock resistant,
anti-magnetic, automatic and water-resistant wristwatch that became
a huge success. Through the unique Aquadura system, invented in
1959, Mido became famous world-wide as the "King of waterproof watches".
This system protects the watch at the critical point, the winder
opening, by means of a specially-treated piece of natural cork.
It guarantees water-tightness even if the winder is pulled out.
This system is still used today. In 1981, Mido launched the Commander
line which still today is the most famous and most sold Mido watch.
Another real innovation arrived in 1995, the Mido Worldtimer, the
only analogue wristwatch setting the local time of 24 cities in
the world automatically.
