By revealing through its sapphire crystal dial the beauty, the quality and the exceptional finishing of its complex mechanism, the new Tourbillon Transparence affords a whole new perspective for viewing the art of Blancpain’s master watchmakers… This remarkable new limited edition of 27, debuts this year in celebration of the 270th anniversary of the founding of the Manufacture.
For the first time, the owner of a Blancpain Tourbillon is treated to a view of both sides of the lovingly hand finished Calibre 6925A. The sapphire dial enables one to admire the bridges, plates and gear trains which are consistently distinguished by their meticulous finishing, but which generally remain hidden from view.
A movement which, equipped with its tourbillon regulator, is considered to be one of the most complex of its kind, is certainly worthy of this noble tribute. The Tourbillon Transparence houses Blancpain Calibre 6925A, a mechanical self-winding movement with a 7-day power reserve and comprising 307 parts. In addition to its remarkable flying tourbillon, this subtle mechanism drives a large date display at 6 o’clock, a 7-day power-reserve indication at 9 o’clock, as well as the hour and minute hands.
To ensure the sweeping visibility that such a masterpiece deserves, Blancpain has set itself the arduous task of equipping this exceptional timepiece with a sapphire dial. Extremely difficult to fashion at just 0.40 mm thick, the sapphire plate serving as a dial is drilled with 33 tiny holes for mounting the diamond-polished baton-shaped and faceted hour-markers and other decorative or functional elements.
The rim of the two date windows and the power-reserve display are engraved and painted on the sapphire in order to optimise legibility.
The Superluminova-tipped openworked cone-shaped hands add a further touch of lightness.
By making visible that which is ordinarily concealed, Blancpain highlights the full sum of craftsmanship dedicated to the hand decoration of the movement, which is the true signature of Haute Horlogerie.
The bevelling on the plates and bridges, the Côtes de Genève decorative motif and the circular graining are all manual operations performed by the artisans with the delicate touch for precise gestures.
The transparency of the dial thus enables the observer to admire the bevelling on the bridges and plates of Calibre 6925A, the Côtes de Genève decorative pattern on the bridge of the power-reserve indicator device, the fine circulargraining on the plate and the sunburst snailed finishing of the two wheels carrying the tens and units of the date display. Bridges, plates and date wheels are rhodium-plated.
As a crowning touch, the Blancpain signature is engraved and rhodium-plated on the bridge.
Water-resistant to 100 metres, the 38 mm diameter case of the Tourbillon Transparency is fashioned from 950 platinum.
Its sapphire case-back also provides views of the same highquality finishing and an opportunity to follow the gentle to-and-fro motion of the hand-chased platinum oscillating weight.
The black crocodile leather strap of this exceptional timepiece is fitted with a folding clasp, also in 950 platinum. Representing an eloquent tribute to the master-watchmakers, designers and craftsmen who have contributed for the past 270 years to forging the Blancpain mastery of the watchmaking art, the Tourbillon Transparence is issued in an exclusive limited series of 27.
