FLY-BACK CHRONOGRAPH “MONTE-CARLO 1973”
The 42nd edition of the Monte-Carlo Rally was memorable for different reasons. 1973 was marked by the launch of the new World Championship for car Brands. The race itself was intense. Full of suspense –with a duel between Jean-Claude Andruet and Ove Andersson–, it ended with a mind-blowing finale.
Jean-Claude Andruet and Mademoiselle “Biche” won with their Alpine Renault A110 n°18. For the first time, a woman entered in the history of the rally as overall co-winner. This edition was also a great success for the Alpine, which took the first three places in the overall classification and all six crews finished in the top 10.*
In memory of this remarkable competition, Girard-Perregaux designed a new fly-back chronograph equipped with a tachymeter scale. Its functions are dedicated to sport. Thanks to the fly-back function, pressing once the push-piece replaces the traditional sequence of operations: stop-reset-start. The tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel enables to calculate the speed of a body in motion.
Manufactured in-house, the steel case is immediately recognizable thanks to its characteristic round chronograph push-pieces. With a sapphire “Box” crystal and the tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel, the design of this timepiece is typical from watches in the beginning of the 1970s.
To commemorate the 1973 edition of the Rally, the dial has been personalized with the inscription “Monte-Carlo 1973”.The case-back is engraved with the winners’ number plate, the names of the car and its drivers.
